Coalition weakened in Diet elections

The Japanese New Frontier Party (NFP) had the most seats in the Diet after the elections on July 23, 1995, putting the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in second place. The NFP won 40 seats, the LDP won 49, and Premier Murayama's Social Democratic Party of Japan won only 16 seats.
