Contours in social change: elemental graphics and a surrogate variable for gamma change
Article Abstract:
Three types of change, alpha, beta and gamma are described graphically in order to visualize change and its effects, analyze interpretive problems associated with studies of change, and define the connection between research and intervention. The graphs depicting types of change tend toward pessimistic views, which may be offset by constructive attitudes toward change. In discussing the pessimism inherent in these graphic models of change, the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) is applied as a surrogate measure of change and response to change.
