Dash to the degree; a graduate education is biology moves a lot faster these days
Article Abstract:
New computational tools are changing biology, allowing scientist to study DNA code. The most popular area of molecular science is DNA sequencing. As DNA is unraveled the code is stored and then analyzed on computers. The genetic code in a human body contains combination over 3 billion letters that require computers in order to be analyzed. The National Institutes of Health's National Center for Biotechnology's Web site allows users to tap into GenBank, a repository of every publicly documented gene's DNA sequences. With tools such as this experimentation time is greatly decreased. Lack of funding is holding many universities back from expanding their access to already developed technology. Many educators are skeptical of the benefits of computerised technology, wondering if scientist will have a shallower scope of knowledge in the future.
