Compaq Computer expected to spin off all or part of Alta Vista Search services

Compaq Computer Corp. is planning on forming a new company from its on-line service division, Alta Vista Search Services. Due to rising stock prices in Internet companies, Compaq sees this as a strategic move in order to direct a better focus on the Internet. Rod W. Schrock will be the te CEO for the new company.

Dell weighs offering computers priced under $1,000; PC company may sacrifice profit for sales, analysts say, as stock tumbles
Article Abstract:
Dell Computer is looking closely at its strategies as slower sales growth influenced a tumble in its stock price. It might have to sacrifice profit margin to spur growth. Or it might get into the sub-$1,000 market; it sells machines now that cost $1,199. With its Internet sales doing well the lower priced models are becoming a stronger possibility.
