Determinants of R&D marketing integration in high-tech Japaneese firms
Article Abstract:
Japanese scientists do not have as many notable scientific breakthroughs as Americans, but more oftheir researches are integrated into the mainstream of business and industry. The degree of R & D/marketing integration in Japan is compared with the US by reviewing published researches. Management of Japan's R & D is decentralized, emphasize educational qualification and length of tenure and is more inclined to take risks than their American counterparts.

Japanese U.S. technological competitiveness and strategic alliances in the biotechnology industry
Article Abstract:
An examination of the strategic alliances between the US and Japan in the biotechnology industry reveals that the basis of competition is changing and that knowledge and information are being perceived more highly than other factors and are being exchanged on an international scale. North American companies should recognize that such collaborations involve costs in strategic and organizational terms. Recommended actions are discussed.
