Disney will invest in web gateway

The Walt Disney Company will pay approximately $900 million to acquire 43% of Infoseek (Sunnyvale, CA), a service which helps on-line users navigate the World Wide Web. These gateways, also known as "portals" serve as a starting point for people who are using the Internet for news and entertainment. Disney plans to create a new internet service by incorporating its existing Web sites such as ABC, ESPN sports network, and Disney's own movie and educational sites with Infoseek's current offerings. Disney is one of several companies that have shown interest in gateways of late. Other companies interested in "portals" include, AT & T, NBC, Microsoft.

Media Metrix plans merger with Relevant Knowledge

Media Metrix, which is based in New York, will acquire Atlanta, Georgia-based Relevant Knowledge. The financial terms of the deal were not announced. The two rival Internet service companies, which each publish a list of the 25 most heavily visited Worldwide Web sites, agreed to the merger to save expenses on costly software and equipment as well as to avoid confusion among customers who purchase detailed information about Web opportunities from both companies. Deal to create the largest interactive ad agency
Article Abstract:
Agency.com has bought Eagle River Interactive Inc. The deal will form the largest agency devoted to creating advertising on the Internet. Omnicom Group owns 40% of Agency.com and all of Eagle River Interactive. The deal will increase Omnicom's stake in Agency.com to just under half. Agency.com has recently bought Interactive Solutions and Ketchum Interactive also owned by Omnicom. Interactive agencies help companies set up their own sites on the World Wide Web and place banners advertising on other sites to bring in traffic.
