Diversity and homophily at work: Supportive relations among white and African-American peers
Article Abstract:
An analysis is done assuming that the value of diversity is very much contingent upon how intergroup contact is defined, with the true benefits of diversity emergent only when intergroup contact is defined in terms of the existence of deep, support-based relationships among dissimilar others. The results of the analysis reveal an inverse relationship between intergroup contact opportunities and the relative prevalence of supportive relations with dissimilar peers.
