Equifax buys stakes in Brazilian concerns totaling $150 million

A $150 million transaction, in which Equifax Inc. has agreed to acquire a 59% stake in Unnisa Solucoes em Meios de Pagamento Ltda. and a 34% stake in Proceda Tecnologia e Informatica SA, recently has been completed. Equifax, which has already acquired a majority stake in Seguranca ao Creditor e Informaceoes, has been expanding throughout Latin America since the early 1990's as part of its strategy to become a leader in credit-card information services and bank-card processing in Latin America.

Tenet plan to buy 8 hospitals is dealt a serious setback

Santa Barbara, CA-based Tenet Healthcare Corp.'s proposed $345 million acquisition of eight Philadelphia nonprofit hospitals received a serious blow when Drexel University's board rejected Tenet's invitation to provide management services to a medical school that is closely affiliated with the hospitals. Allegheny Health, Education and Research Foundation owns the medical school and the university. The foundation declared bankruptcy in July 1998.

Remington Oil & Gas enters pact to acquire S-Sixteen Holding Co
Article Abstract:
Remington Oil & Gas Corp. announced that it has reached an agreement to purchase S-Sixteen Holding Co. The takeover is part of an attempt to downsize Remington's capital structure. According to the terms of the deal, Remington's two classes of common shares will be converted into a single class of common stock. Each share will have one vote. Remington has 3.2 million Class A outstanding shares.
