Espoused values and organizational change themes
Article Abstract:
Using computer-aided content analysis, we assessed the strength of nine values - authority, performance, reward, normative, commitment, participation, leadership, teamwork, and affiliation - in 88 large Australian organizations. Cluster analysis was used to categorize each organization as having one of four value structures: elite, leadership, meritocratic, or collegial. Organizations classified as having different value structures differed in a theoretically consistent way in how their members described organizational change. We discuss the implications of these findings for the values theory and the use of content analysis for the study of organizational values. (Reprinted by permission of the publisher.)

Location-level links between diversity and innovative climate depend on national power distance
Article Abstract:
The relationship between the demographic diversity and innovative climates of 248 organizational locations of a multinational company in 24 countries is examined in a study. Diversity in the more task-oriented demographic attributes of organizational tenure and functional background are negatively related to these locations' innovative climates in high-power-distance countries, and positively related to those in low-power-distance countries, with no effect on the more relations-oriented demographic attributes of age and gender.

Toward theory-based measures of conflict management
Article Abstract:
The theory of the managerial grid, a model of interrelations among styles of management, was used as the criterion for validating the two best-known self-support measures of conflict management styles. We reanalyzed six studies that used those measures and found that both appeared to be moderately valid. However, the measures failed to reflect the underlying theory in a few respects, which suggested specific areas for improving them. (Reprinted by permission of the publisher.)
