Exploratory results on the importance of R&D knowledge domains in business with different strategies
Article Abstract:
Priority listings are found to be different for research and development (R&D) departments in businesses with different strategies. In the case of defender organizations, R&D departments ignore industry changes that have no direct effect on their operations. They also give importance to R&D capabilities that are directed on achieving cost reductions. In the case of analyzers, R&D capabilities that are aimed at market sensing, customer linking via close interfunctional coordination and technology monitoring are given importance.

Commitment to innovation: the impact of top management team characteristics
Article Abstract:
A positive relationship was observed between the technical orientation of the top management team (TMT)/chief executive officer (CEO) and above-average research and development intensity. The relationship persisted even after the impact of performance in prior periods and firm diversification was controlled. Such finding illustrate that the predispositions of the CEO and top management team influence the establishment in an organization of a high level of commitment to innovation.

Shareholder value, real options, and innovation in technology-intensive companies
Article Abstract:
An approach was presented to create a valuation framework that can be utilized in the value-based management of technology-intensive firms. The approach works by linking concepts from technology and innovation management, sequential models of the new product development (NPD) process and real options valuation technique. It involves the use of a binomial option tree to associate hitech and life sciences companies' valuation with growth opportunities.
