GM names Trudell to head faltering Saturn division
Article Abstract:
As Donald Hudler retires from heading up the Saturn division at General Motors, the corporation appointed only its fourth female vice president, Cynthia Trudell. She will oversee the production of Saturns at the Wilmington, Delaware, plant which will be the first time the cars are made outside of Spring Hill, Tennessee. Car sales have been declining for about five years in spite of Saturn's reputation. GM will start introducing new products in an attempt to turn around the decline. Meanwhile, Hudler will head up Saturn Retail Enterprises, a company that will make sure Saturn franchises don't get into the wrong hands.

Chrysler makes manufacturing inroads at plant in Brazil
Article Abstract:
Chrysler Corp. has constructed an auto assembly plant in Campo Largo, a small farming town in Brazil. The facility is part of the car maker's attempt to take advantage of one of the fastest-expanding markets in the world. Chrysler is hoping that the plant will show how a automaker can become profitable in an emerging market. Chrysler is also using the idea of "modularity" at the plant. This entails suppliers assembling various components into dashboards or suspension units and the car manufacturer assembling the different modules.
