Y&R taps P.R. man to head ad agency
Article Abstract:
Young & Rubicam Inc. picked its top public relations executive, Thomas Bell, to head its advertising agency - underscoring the escalating demands of clients for marketing help beyond just 30-second commercials and print ads. Y&R named the 48-year-old Bell as world-wide chairman and chief executive of Young and Rubicam Advertising. Its parent company, Y&R Inc., is the world's fifth largest advertising and communications company, which has $1.4 billion in revenue and clients. Mr Bell succeeds Ed Vick, 54, who remains chief operating officer of the parent company. Insiders say Bell is now positioned squarely behind Vick, the heir apparent to Peter Georgescu, the 59-year-old chairman and chief executive of Y&R. Y&R also elevated one of its few top female executives, Linda Srere, to chief client officer of the parent company.
