East Africa Gold Mines is expected to begin production in Tanzania in Sep 1999. The company plans to process about two million tons of ore per year, and East Africa Gold Mines should produce at least 100,000 ounces of gold per year. The prospects in Tanzania are thought to be very satisfying to the company's owner, Geoff Stewart, who had been dropped from North Flinders' board of directors in 1993.

Normandy chief defies the predators

Australia's gold industry has had economic woes since the decrease of gold prices. Normandy Mining Chmn Robert Champion de Crespigny is not concerned about possible acquisition by a US firm. Normandy has holdings in Australia, Europe and North America and is in the midst of establishing joint ventures and expanding production at various facilities.
