IBM and Sequent, a match made in heaven

International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) on July 12, 1999, acquired Sequent Computer Systems Inc., and the takeover brings to IBM Sequent's computer architecture expertise. Sequent developed a non-uniform memory access, which uses multi-processing to allow computers to expand in a linear manner. IBM will sell Sequent's Numa-Q series of processors, based on Sequent's Numa architecture. Sequent has about 2500 employees and, in 1998, its revenues were $784 million with a net loss of $52.5 million.

Sydney firm Rowlands, having three partners and twenty-five staff members, merged with PKF of New South Wales, having thirty partners and one hundred and sixty-two staff members, on July 1, 2003. Rowlands spent eighteen months in knowing PKF, before merging with the same, as personal relationship between the key partners of the two firms was crucial to the merger.
