St. Paul Cos. is expecting to post a total of $175 million in pretax catastrophe losses for the third-quarter of 1998. St. Paul is only the first of many other property-casualty insurers who are expected to be posting losses resulting from hurricane damage during the quarter. The company is expecting to see $35 million to $45 million in operating earnings due to the damage caused by Hurricane Bonnie during the fall of 1998.
