Australian investors should look overseas for investments because many Australian firms are not included among the best growth industries. The best growth industries are computers, health care, pharmaceuticals and information-technology. Australian firms now represent 1.5% of the total world stockmarkets, compared to 2% in the past. US firms dominate these industries.

The main factors to be considered by the investors before deciding their move are timing, stock selection, the dominance of United States and foreign stocks and the resultant currency exposure. Further, currency risk is inherent unless it is a fund with some form of hedging or investors make their own hedging arrangements.
