J.P. Morgan's net rebounded in quarter

JP Morgan & Co. announced that its profits for the second-quarter of 1998 rebounded after two shaky quarters resulting from the Asian economic crisis and restructuring expenses. JP Morgan's net income for the quarter increased 29% compared to the same period in 1997. The increase included a one-time, after tax gain of $79 million, raised from JP Morgan's sale of its global trust and agency services business to Citicorp.

Sale of National Commerce is being mulled

National Commerce Bancorp. is looking into the possibility of putting itself up for sale. The company believes that a sale would raise $3 billion or more. National has not made a final decision on this matter as it could choose to remain independent.
