Labor standoff knocks out NBA's exhibition season
Article Abstract:
The National Basketball Association will be forced to cancel its 1998 exhibition season due to an owner's lockout of players related to continuing negotiations over a new collective bargaining agreement. The event represents the first time that a regular season has been interrupted due to a work stoppage, and industry analysts believe that the stalled negotiations also will lead to the cancellation of some regular season games. The pivotal issue hinges on whether the players will be allowed to keep their rights to earn unlimited salaries as free agents.
