UAL's search for next chief comes down to two

Two candidates have risen to the top for the top spot at UAL Corp., James E. Goodwin and Louis R. Hughes. Goodwin rose to the top within United, starting as an accountant in 1967. Hughes rose through the ranks of General Motors, also in a finance position. Goodwin is called affable, Hughes is called intense. No official comment has been made about the two candidates. The two names were reported on the Internet site of Business Week.

AirTran flight attendants prepare for possible strike
Article Abstract:
AirTran Airlines' flight attendants' union announced that it is preparing for labor walkout for the weekend of September 5-6, 1998. Negotiators from both the airline and from the Association of Flight Attendants renewed talks in an attempt to prevent a strike by the 1998 Labor Day weekend. Both sides have been engaged in labor negotiations since 1995. AirTran's former name is ValuJet Airlines.
