Microsoft Corp. designed many of its software programs for stand-alone personal computers, thus making many of its programs vulnerable to security breaches. The programming languages used in writing most Windows software lack 'fences' which prevent corruption of machines by destructive bits of computer code. The Windows programs also lack routine security devices found in major software packages.
