Ma Blue: IBM's Move into Communications
Article Abstract:
The telecommunications activites of IBM Corp. are highlighted. IBM has linked up with a manufacturer of telecommunications equipment, a transmitter of long-distance communication signals and an overseas marketer. These actions are part of IBM's strategy to protect and expand its basic computer business. Transporting data between computers is becoming increasingly important. IBM plans to provide communications equipment and networks, hardware and software. Computer demand will increase because of telecommunications. IBM maintains a long distance data service for customers not large enough to buy a mainframe. Stock quotes are a new IBM product. Photographs of IBM satellites and systems and the firm's communications chief are included.
