A stock-driven rush to riches for Manhattan's Silicon Alley
Article Abstract:
Initial Public Offerings have made many of Manhattan's 'Silicon Alley' workers paper millionaires. Such firms as iVillage.com have seen their shares rise from $6 to $103 in a matter of weeks. However, there are sceptics that see their new wealth as 'monopoly money' and are not yet planning their retirement. This is a new avenue for Manhattan's young workers to become wealthy quickly, because such businesses as investment banking have been the traditional routes to early wealth.
