Growing pains: house of Microsoft has many Windows
Article Abstract:
Microsoft is planning to release so many different versions of its Microsoft Windows operating system that it is becoming difficult to distinguish among the different models. Windows 3.1 is the mainstream version at the moment, and accounts for the majority of Windows revenues. Windows NT is the new version that is intended for use on servers and by professionals such as engineers. Windows for Workgroups is a modified version of Windows 3.1, offering functions built in for limited networking among small work groups. Windows for Pen Computing will be pre-installed on portable computers that work with special electronic pen input devices. Chicago is the code-name for the the upgrade to Windows 3.1, and will likely be called Windows 4.0. Modular Windows is the family name for a host of stripped down versions of Windows, intended for use on entertainment systems and non-microcomputer office machines.
