Actors' strike cuts California production

Members of the Screen Actors Guild and The American Federation of Television-Radio Artists are entering the fourth week of strikes against advertising agencies. Actors working on television commercials are demanding compensation for TV commercials that appear on cable television. Production permits in Los Angeles County have dropped significantly as producers move outside of Southern California to find other film locations.

Actors, advertising industry reach strike settlement

A tentative agreement was announced in the long strike by actors against the ad industry over payment rates for advertising on cable TV and the Internet. The union won major concessions, but failed to obtain a 'pay-for-play' formula that would pay actors for every airing of a TV commercial on cable TV, as opposed to a flat fee.

Monitoring online use of ads is turning out to be a problem
Article Abstract:
The Screen Actors Guild is having trouble enforcing the rule of payment for online ads since it is nearly impossible to keep track of online ads, for which actors are supposed to get a $1,500 stipend. The industry-wide ad plunge has also hit the Internet, though many were always disenchanged with banner and pop-up ads. But online ad rates but some companies are showing their TV ads online, on their own Web sites, forever in search of buzz.
