NCR To Share Network with 'Outsiders'

Article Abstract:

NCR Corp., through its subsidiary NCR Telecommunications Services Inc. (NCR-TSI), is building an integrated communications network that will be used by NCR's customers and its employees. The first area of concentration for NCR-TSI is in voice communications resale. Two services currently offered on the network are National Net and Thrifticall. National Net is a direct port access service. It can carry both voice and long- distance data communication. Thrifticall is a dial access long- distance service similar to MCI or Sprint. It is currently being used by 6,000 NCR employees and 2,000 commercial businesses. NCR-TSI's success will depend on its ability to offer a total communications network. There are three components of such a network: local-area networks, intracity networks, and long- haul networks.

LIST-8 End User List Management System Released

Article Abstract:

Century Analysis Inc.'s LIST-8 is a user friendly list management system that allows computer novices to input, manage, display, and print data. Users can create their own screen formats to suit their data. The package can be used by Stage-B and Stage-X users on systems running BOSS-3 or IMPACT-6. Field names are user-assigned and field lengths are flexible. Data can be manipulated in four ways: 1) it can be extracted by field name from one file to another 2) it can be sorted into can be sorted into any sequence by specifying the field name 3) it can be selected based on field contents and 4) it can be selected by exact match or by matching a range of values.
