Need, equity and the NHS: the distribution of health care expenditure 1974-87
Article Abstract:
The main aim of the UK National Health Service (NHS) is to provide health care for those most in need. There is uncertainty as to whether this has been met and that more focus is made on the ability to pay. The study examines horizontal equity in the NHS by using 3 methods to analyse 4 sets of data obtained from the General Household Survey. The selected years were 1974, 1982, 1985 and 1987. Results show that NHS distribution has not changed significantly in the period examined and that NHS health care tends to be biased towards the poor rather than the wealthy

The antecedents of buying firms' efforts to improve suppliers
Article Abstract:
The determinants of a buying firm's time and resource investments in supplier development were investigated. Supplier development is defined as any effort on the part of a buying firm with a supplier to enhance the latter's performance and/or capabilities and to meet its own short and/or long-term supply requirements. Empirical results showed that supplier commitment, effective buyer-supplier communication and expectation of relationship continuity precede the buying firm's supplier development efforts.
