Infoseek, Disney unit to launch new Internet site

The online division of Walt Disney Co. and Infoseek Corp. are planning to create a new Internet site which will be named the "Go Network." Industry analysts have said that both companies are interested in becoming leading contenders in the race for establishing central hubs, or portal, on the World Wide Web. Disney, which has said that its strategy is to own industry-leading brands, will contribute $166 million for marketing support of the new venture. The new online service will offer search and directory functions and communications and electronic commerce.
