Netscape Communications Corp. announced a small profit for the third-quarter of 1998. The company's profits were higher than what Wall Street analysts had expected. The figures showed that Netscape may be starting to stabilize itself following several months of difficulties. Netscape posted $88,000 in net income for the quarter ending on July 31, 1998. The company also posted a $44.7 million loss for the quarter ending on June 30, 1997.

Autodesk Inc. to purchase Canadian firm

Autodesk Inc. announced that it will purchase Discreet Logic Inc., a manufacturer of digital design and multimedia software, in a $520 million all-stock deal. Autodesk is planning to merge its Kinetix division with Discreet. Discreet produces software and high-end systems in order to create moving images that are computer generated. Autodesk is attempting to become the top digital-content design and special effects tools maker.

Netscape posts profit, beats expectations

Netscape Communications Corp. posted a small profit for the second-quarter of 1998. The struggling company also posted quarterly revenue that was higher-than-expected. Netscape reported earnings of $8,000 for the quarter as its recorded an $8.3 million one-time securities transactions gain. The company posted a $10.1 million loss on an operating basis. Its quarterly revenue increased to $127.2 million.
