No win in Toyota union victory

The unauthorized leaves case between Toyota Australia and the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union and the Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union appeared to be a victory for the unions, but the dispute highlighted how little the maintenance unions understood the competitive environment in the manufacturing industry. The ruling deputy of the Industrial Relations Commission even stated that Toyota was entitled to discipline workers but that internal harmony was more important.
