Sugar producers take on selling role
Article Abstract:
Australian sugar is produced mainly in Queensland, and the state sells the annual crop to foreign and domestic buyers. However, the state is now transferring control of the marketing function to the private sector. It is hoped that this move will allow the sugar industry to expand its horizons and create its own expertise. The estimated cost savings in allowing the industry to assume the marketing function is expected to be A$3 million.

China confusion leaves Austrade in the cold
Article Abstract:
Austrade, the Australian trade agency, is confusing the Chinese with its many business initiatives, as Australia's Asia-Pacific Design Group (APDG) plans a $4 billion town center in China. Some APDG members claim that Austrade is compromising the efforts of Australian businesses in China and undermining public trust of foreign companies. It may appear to the Chinese that Austrade is pitting one Australian business against the other.
