Northwest, Continental forge alliance, despite Justice Department objections
Article Abstract:
Northwest Airlines and Continental will begin code sharing in a marketing alliance that has not yet been approved by the Justice Dept. This is seen as a possibility that NW's having a controlling stake in Continental would be easy to reverse should the Dept. find antitrust violations at a later date. The cash and stock deal is also under the DOT's review.

Northwest follows suit on fare rise
Article Abstract:
Delta led the pack with fare increases. Northwest matched those increases of 4% leisure and 2% business. Then all the rest followed suit. Northwest had been sticking with discounts in an attempt to recover from its pilots' strike. This move seems to indicate that it is recovering sufficiently.
