Northwest rescinds 4% fare increase other carriers already had matched
Article Abstract:
Northwest Airlines rescinded a 4% increase in leisure fares that it had initiated and was matched by all other airlines. Fare increases do not stick if one airline does not go along. Northwest had scuttled six other attempts to raise leisure fares since April, 1998. Northwest did not rescind the price increase by accident according to a Northwest spokesman. Northwest may have rescinded the price increase due to negetive publicity it recieved for increasing fares. Northwest is currently facing a possible strike by its pilots' union.

It could also have a major impact on the Midwest economy. Northwest's pilot's union has a membership of 6,000 pilots.
