Strategically managed buyer-supplier relationships and performance outcomes
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the strategic role of purchasing within the company. Using a large cross industry sample of 739 companies, the rigorous empirical analysis was the first attempt to investigate a structural model of strategic purchasing and its impact on buyer-supplier relationships, supplier evaluation systems, and companies' financial performance. Results indicated that a strategic purchasing function is critical to the success of the firm and that companies with a strategic purchasing function are more likely to use a supplier evaluation system.
