The 'Literary Supplement' comes of age: a history, of sorts, of the Book Review

The New York Times Book Review began publishing in 1896 as a supplement to The New York Times. New owner Adolph S. Ochs decided to separate the reviews from the body of the paper to make them more prominent. The section evolved over time and has been criticized for not being literary enough.
