QFD - linking the customer to the product development process as a part of the TQM concept
Article Abstract:
Swedish iron ore supplier LKAB has integrated quality function deployment (QFD) to its product development process. QFD covers matrix relationships that are interpretative of customer technical specifications used by producers in creating a product. The method has exhibited the capacity to improve the product development process by ensuring the inclusion of all desired product specifications.

This article examines reasons for company failure to maintain a program of total quality management (TQM). Differences between implementation and conceptual failure, development of human resource strategies that support TQM programs, and necessary innovations are discussed.
