The artful way to earn a name
Article Abstract:
The Australian accounting firm of Lowenstein Sharp Feiglin Ades has an extensive art collection in its offices and takes its fees from artists in the form of artwork. The collection amounts to more than 550 works. Partner Tom Lowenstein says that artists account for about 5-10% of the firm's fees. Lowenstein has been taking artwork in lieu of tax and accounting fees since the early 1970s. The firm donates $25,000 a year, with a matching donation from the state government, for a fellowship for artists.
