Article Abstract:

The General Services Administration handles the purchasing requirements of the different federal agencies in three key areas, namely, supplies, information technology and real estate. Its Public Buildings Service (PBS) unit has shifted to outsourcing more than 90% of its work, which prompted its adoption of a project management culture and project management techniques. A study was conducted to investigate the implementation of project management techniques in the outsourcing activities of PBS in the mid-Atlantic region.

Fuzzy operations and Petri nets: techniques for resource substitution in projects

Article Abstract:

A study tested the hypothesis that the modeling power of Petri nets used in tandem with fuzzy sets and aggregation techniques leads to faster quantitative and qualitative representation of resource substitution in large projects. This in turn results in better project management and control. The suggested approach features certain restrictions such as the selection of experts, wide deviation in estimates and final interpretations of the highest probability effect combined with other relatively high probability effects.

Program management keeps army systems development on track

Article Abstract:

The Army's Program Executive Office for Command, Control and Communication Systems (PEO C3S) and its Central Technical Support Facility (CTSF) are tasked with all Army Battle Command Systems integration. A shift to digital systems has called for the upgrade of PEO C3S' computer hardware and software systems, while CTSF is testing the new system architecture for the digitization effort. Both units are using project management techniques to efficiently accomplish this initiative.
