Tobacco: former executive's charges revealed

The contents of a sealed deposition of former Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corp executive Jeffrey S. Wigand were revealed in The Wall Street Journal. Wigand alleges that other executives acknowledged the addictive nature of nicotine and used cancer-causing agents in its tobacco products.

Philip Morris faces accusations
Article Abstract:
The FDA released affidavits on Mar 18, 1996, that were filed by three former employees of Philip Morris Cos alleging that the tobacco firm routinely monitored and adjusted levels of nicotine. Philip Morris said the affidavits were part of a plan to discredit the tobacco industry.

Philip Morris buys Freia Marabou

The stockholders of Freia Marabou, Scandinavia's largest candy manufacturer, on Oct 12, 1992, accepted an offer of $1.5 billion from Philip Morris Companies to buy the candy maker. The purchase would increase Philip Morris's share of the European candy market to 15%.
