U.S. sets sanctions on Japanese autos
Article Abstract:
The US placed a 100% tariff on luxury automobiles that are imported from Japan as a way to have automobile makers import more parts from the US. The sanctions were criticized by many countries and Japan is considering trade retaliation. Sales of US-made luxury cars are not expected to increase.

'N.Y. Times' sets 'Boston Globe' purchase
Article Abstract:
New York Times Co plans to pay $1.1 billion to acquire the Boston Globe's parent company, Affiliated Publications Inc. The Globe was looking for a merger to prevent a fight for control of the newspaper that could occur after two trusts lapse in 1996.
