Win-win?
Article Abstract:
Investors perceive inflation-indexed bonds to be a good deal since their payment of interest and principal are already assured by the government. In addition, inflation-indexed bonds are protected against the effects of rising prices. Taxpayers will also benefit from the decline of government interest expenses resulting from the increased sales of these bonds. However, some bond buyers are concerned that the buying power of long-term savings might be adversely affected by inflation. They feel that the price index used by the government may significantly change in the next few years.

Article Abstract:
A sizeable number of businessmen and consumers have started to lose their confidence in the government's fiscal policy, more so because the budget deficit is expected to reach $400 billion by 1993. Aside from the loss of confidence, the deficit has kept interest rates on medium- and long-term debt markets high. In order to reduce the deficit in the long-run, consumers must learn to change their lifestyle and demand from the government only what they are willing to pay for in the form of taxes.

Winners and losers
Article Abstract:
The Clinton administration will have to consider a number of tradeoffs while planning its economic policy. Furthermore, it will have to convince the public that its economic decisions are sound. Some areas wherein the new administration will have to formulate reasonable compromises are the conflict between job creation and deficits, the conflict between free trade and fair trade and the inflation level.
