... And still ticking strong
Article Abstract:
Louis Brandt started the Omega line of watches when he began making key-wound pocket watches at his workshop in the town of La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848. After his death in 1877, his two sons took over the business and officially established the Omega brand. By 1885, Omega was producing watches with a precision of 30 seconds a day. It attained a high degree of technical excellence such that by 1905, Omega was awarded 42% of certificates issued by the Geneva Observatory. During the 20th century, Omega made other notable achievements such as being the official timekeeper in more than 20 Olympic Games and as the watch worn by US astronauts in the 1960s.
