Period and phase of customer replenishment: a new approach to the strategic inventory/routing problem
Article Abstract:
The strategic inventory routing problem (SIRP) is considered. Specifically, customer-specific period and phase of replenishment are added to the decision variables used to determine the minimum size and cost of a delivery fleet without a priori information about customer inventory levels. The problem, which requires all possible events in the tactical IRP problem to be solved, is solved by estimating the fleet size based on the routing solutions. The results show that the approach results in lower solution cost.

Computational approximations of renewal process relating to a warranty problem: the case of phase-type lifetimes
Article Abstract:
Two product warranty policies covering phase-type lifetime distributions are studied using several approximation techniques. The various properties of phase-type distributions are considered in the study together with the numbers of renewals in a finite interval. Results indicate that the straight line approximation technique cannot be used in evaluating product warranty policies when the lifetime has a large variability.
