Videocon group plans to become a global conglomerate like Electrolux. It has recently launched a new logo and a message that says it is a company dedicated to maintaining the highest international standards of excellence through quality, technology and innovation. It is moving out of volume leadership to become a globally competitive company. It has launched innovative products like tv.comp, a television cum computer. It has started marketing brands like Toshiba, Sansui and Kenwood. It plans to achieve a production share of 50 percent in consumer electronics by the end of 1999 (35 percent at present). The Videocon brand is sold directly and through other brand umbrellas. It plans to flood the market with products in different price range. It also intends to introduce new millennium products like plasma television, web television and DVD player. It has developed a new chassis for its televisions through in-house research and development. It has projected sales of 1.5 million colour televisions by end of 1999. (rk)(vr)

DD BAGS RIGHTS FOR WORLD CUP TELECAST
Article Abstract:
DoorDarshan (DD) has procured the rights for the live telecast of World Cup Cricket, to be held in England in May 1999. A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the England Cricket Board, DD and its marketing agents, Stracon India Ltd. DD will pay 50 percent of the amount while the balance will be paid by ESPN, which will telecast the match simultaneously. DD will telecast 11 matches live and one hour highlights of the remaining 31 matches. (um)
