'WE NEED A NATIONAL STORAGE POLICY'
Article Abstract:
In an interview to The Economic Times, Balbir Singh, Secretary, Storage and Administration, Ministry of Food of the Government of India, has stated that India needs a national policy to reduce the wastage of foodgrains from 10-25 percent of the total production. India loses about 20 million tonnes of foodgrains per annum, worth Rs10,000-15,000 crore. Foodgrain storage should be included in infrastructure development. A community storage system, like milk co-operatives, should be established. The storage sector should be opened for private and foreign equity participation for building capacity in India. Countries like Australia have 72 percent rice retrieval value from paddy against 67 percent of India. (rk/kvr)

GOVT EASES DRUG EXPORT POLICY
Article Abstract:
The Government of India has relaxed the requirements for granting no-objection certificates (NOC) for exporting drug molecules, which are not marketed in India. The Government has instructed Drug Controller of India to clear all the pending applications within a week. The conditions for grant of NOC have been reduced from 17 to six. The applicant company should produce a proven copy of its valid export order. The applicant should mention whether the drug has undergone quality control tests in India or has to be done abroad. The applicant should also ensure that all products approved for exports are exported completely and not sold locally. (um)(psr)
