A bailout is just the start of Indonesia's health regimen
Article Abstract:
Critics of Indonesia's authoritarian rule believe that the country must make serious reforms in its treatment of human rights to complement the economic package of the International Monetary Fund. Though the New Order government of President Suharto has brought economic development to the country, it has resulted in the neglect of poverty and human rights abuses. The government has instituted the Anti-Subversion law which has allowed currency speculation and food hoarding to be treated as subversion, which is punishable by death.
