A cat to chase the giant rats
Article Abstract:
A senior official from the Vietnamese ruling Communist Party, Tran Do, has been expelled, despite claims of the prime minister Phan Van Khai that the party is not affected by divisions. Do had been critical of the party's policies, and the significance of his expulsion is not clear. Do favors reform, greater freedom of expression, and more party democracy. The future of the party will be discussed by the Central Committee in late Jan 1999, and the extent to which reform will be hampered by the expulsion will become clear.
