A considerable decrease in emissions
Article Abstract:
Czech Republic should get to the average level of OECD states before the US and Canada in the field of the specific emissions of sulphur dioxide per inhabitant in 2000. The emissions of sulphur dioxide decreased by 68% in the Czech Republic in 1998 compared to 1997. The emissions should further decrease in 1999. The Czech Republic has fulfilled the commitments of the Montreal's Protocol and connected clauses, having reduced the consumption of substances, which damage the ozone layer of the earth, to 93 t in 1996 compared to 5,514 t in 1986. The emissions of carbon dioxide decreased by 23% in 1995 compared to 1990. The emissions of solid substances decreased by more than 80% in 1997 compared to 1987. Besides, the Czech Republic has decreased the emissions of nitrogen dioxide and the volume of discharged contaminated sewage.

EOP will decrease its emissions
Article Abstract:
Elektrarny Opatovice (EOP) (Opatovice nad Labem, Czech Republic), power company, will decrease its SO2 emissions by about 80% to 8,000 t per year from 2001. The firm's solid substance production volume will decrease similarly in 2001 compared to about 350 t per year in 2000. A reason for the drop is the installation of new environmental equipment, which EOP commissioned in Jan 2001. The total costs on the project were CEK 2.0 bil.
