Debunking Coke
Article Abstract:
Douglas Daft is the new head of Coca-Cola and has to tackle a drop in profit, poor volume growth, and a low stock price. He has started with a program of layoffs, and half the jobs to be shed are going in Atlanta, Georgia. He aims to decrentralize the management of the company and this includes developing local brands. He also aims to improve relations with the company's bottlers. The comapny has seen growth from raising prices for its bottling syrup, but there are limits to this strategy.

New Doug, old tricks
Article Abstract:
Coca-Cola will have a new chief executive, Douglas Daft, following the resignation of Douglas Ivester from the post. The company has seen growth disappear, has failed to make acquisitions, been faced with Italian monopoly charges, and health scares in France and Belgium. The recession in Asia, and slow economic growth in Europe have affected the company. There has also been a lack of new ideas and a focus on developing what the company was already involved in. There is a need for a more daring and open culture at the company.
