Russian Pres Yeltsin's effort to garner increased aid from the Group of 7 nations is motivated by his need to shore up the declining value of the ruble. The currency, now valued at 800 to the dollar, could be stabilized via a $6 billion international fund and monetary policy changes.

Trembling Russia
Article Abstract:
The drastic economic reforms underway in Russia have been slow to take effect and have caused even more short term hardship, but there have been some positive developments. Aid from the West is crucial if Russia is to weather the storm so that the reforms can have lasting benefits.
