A fight for the faithful
Article Abstract:
The election of Abdelilah Ben Kirane, an islamist youth movement representative, to parliament following his victory in a by-election in Sale, Morocco, has led to speculation as to how rapidly Islamist groups will come to represent the masses in the opposition. Ben Kirane's campaign was focused on a defense of public morality and the faith with criticisms of the government for permitting acohol and interest. King Hassan has traditionally been absolute monarch on spiritual issues, but this could change.

The Gurkhas' new fight
Article Abstract:
The Gurkhas are soldiers from Nepal who have fought for Britain, and their pay has not increased as rapidly as that of other British soldiers. There has been a campaign in Nepal to seek to remedy this, and pay levels have improved, though pension levels are still much lower than those enjoyed by British soldiers from elsewhere. There is a call to improve the pension and for former Gurkhas and their children to be given opportunities to work in Britain.
